Winnie Madikizela Mandela the wife of the late Nelson Mandela who died in 2013 is dead. She died at the age
of 81 at the Netcare Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa on April 2 after a long illness. Winnie was one of the greatest icons of the struggle against apertheid, she fought valiantly against the Pertheid abd sacrificed her life for the freedom of the country.
She was also known as the “Mother of the Nation” because of her struggle against white minority rule in south Africa. Winnie Madikizela Mandela was married to Nelson Mandela for 38 year and they divorced in 1996, The couple have two daughter before they divorced. Nelson Mandela died in 2013 but while in prison his wife Winnie kept the memory of her husband alive during his years in Robben island and helped give struggle for justice in South Africa.
Winnie Madikizela Mandela was born in 1936 in the Eastern Cape province, she got married to Nelson Mandela in 1958 at the age of 22. Nelson Mnadela was the first black president in South Africa and died in 2013. The memorial service of winnie will be held on April 11 while the official national funeral will be on the April 14. Winnie Madikizela Mandela was known because of herr ex husband outside Africa but as a mouthpiece and face of the bitter struggle against the racist regime in South Africa.
